Damping in Wave Systems
-
Here are two animations made from NetLogo wave simulations.
-
Damping in the top simulation is high. Damping in the bottom one is low.
-
The driver in the top simulation has about twice the amplitude as does the driver in the bottom simulation.
-
This means that the top simulation has twice the energy input that the bottom simulation has.
-
Observe how energy never builds up in the top animation.
-
In the bottom simulation, after a while, energy builds up in the system.
-
The wave activity is thus much larger than in the top simulation.
-
The amplitude of the wave activity corresponds to the energy stored in the system.
