Guided Simulations
-
Here are several versions of the basic wave machine simulation.
-
Each version has parameters set to show certain specific behaviors and effects. These effects emerge naturally from the wave machine model, and the basic properties of wave dynamics.
-
You should keep track of the parameter values of each simulation that you think is interesting. Here is a worksheet for recording experimental information:
-
This simulation shows a complex interaction between wave speed, driver frequency and the natural resonant frequency of the wave tank. Try some of the suggested changes for parameter values, and write down your description of the wave behavior.
-
-
This sim is set up to produce resonance in both sides of the tank. After a while , notice that the driver starts to decrease the energy of the waves, rather than increasing the energy. Try to find a driver frequency which maintains a consistent and stable number of resonant waves. You may need to reduce driver amplitude.
-
-
This sim shows the effects of damping.
-
-
The sim lets you experiment with the interaction of wave speed (stiffness) and resonant frequency of the wave tank.
-
-
This shows you some more interactions between resonance and driver frequency.
-
-
This sim shows you how changing the driver position affects the resonance.
-
-
Experiment with stiffness and wave behavior in this sim.
